Carefully planned and expertly built patios and paved spaces
Fangorn Landscapes specialises in the design and installation of patios and paving in Worcester Park and across South West London. We construct durable, well-detailed paved spaces using natural stone, porcelain, and concrete materials, with careful attention to ground preparation, setting out, drainage, and long-term performance.
Each project is approached with a clear construction strategy, ensuring materials and detailing are suited to the site conditions and the intended use of the space. From simple paved terraces to more complex designs involving level changes, steps, and integrated drainage, our focus remains on accuracy, longevity, and clean finishes.

Key considerations
Common challenges with patios and paving

Ground preparation and sub-base construction
Every patio is constructed on a correctly specified sub-base, designed to suit the site conditions and intended use. This provides long-term stability and reduces the risk of movement or settlement.
Accurate setting out, levels, and drainage
Levels and falls are carefully planned to manage surface water effectively, protect the property, and ensure the finished space functions as intended in all weather conditions.
Material selection and detailing
Materials are selected for suitability as well as appearance, with close attention paid to jointing, edges, steps, and interfaces to achieve a clean, durable finish.

What we build
We design and construct high-quality patios and paved areas tailored to each property, with a focus on longevity, drainage, and clean detailing. Our work ranges from straightforward patio replacements through to more complex installations involving level changes, steps, and retaining edges.
We regularly install:
• Porcelain patios, laid on a full mortar bed for strength and consistent support
• Natural stone paving, including sandstone and limestone, selected for durability and visual consistency
• Block paving for patios, paths, and transitional areas between hard landscaping elements
• Steps, seating edges, and retaining details, integrated into the paving layout
• Drainage channels and falls, designed to manage surface water effectively
All patios are set out carefully to suit the scale and character of the garden, with joints, cuts, and edge details planned to achieve a clean, balanced finish.
We regularly work in Worcester Park, Surbiton, Tolworth, and surrounding KT postcode areas.

How our patios are constructed
A long-lasting patio starts below the surface. Ground conditions in this part of London, particularly the prevalence of London clay, mean that correct preparation and drainage are critical in preventing movement, standing water, and premature failure.
Our patio and paving installations are constructed using a consistent, proven build-up designed to provide long-term stability:
• A minimum 100 mm primary MOT Type 1 sub-base, mechanically compacted in layers (we use primary aggregate rather than recycled material for improved consistency and performance)
• Patios are set out with appropriate falls (typically in the range of 1:60–1:80) to aid drainage without creating an abrupt gradient
• All paving laid on a full mortar bed, providing continuous support across each slab and reducing the risk of voids or rocking over time
• Paving units are primed on the underside prior to laying to improve bond strength and reduce the risk of debonding over time
• Jointing and edge restraints installed to suit the paving type and layout, helping maintain alignment and finish
Where required, drainage channels and additional groundworks are incorporated into the design to manage surface water effectively, particularly in areas with limited natural soakage.
This approach ensures the patio is not only visually clean on completion, but structurally sound and built to perform reliably for many years to come.

Local experience & site conditions
We regularly carry out patio and paving works in Worcester Park and the surrounding areas, and are familiar with the typical site conditions found across this part of South West London.
Many local properties present practical considerations such as restricted access, narrow side passages, existing drainage constraints, and clay-based ground conditions. Our approach takes these factors into account from the outset, allowing us to plan materials, access, and sequencing in a way that minimises disruption and avoids unnecessary compromise to the finished result.
By combining local knowledge with a consistent construction approach, we’re able to deliver patios that are well suited to the property, the ground they sit on, and how the space will be used day to day.
